Why banks in PNG are a source of frustration…

The history of picking up a replacement ATM card from the Goroka Branch of the local ANZ Bank follows:

6th of March, 2008:
Customer instruction letter signed and given to ANZ teller (Nicole) at Goroka Branch requesting:
- Transfer of account from Moresby to Goroka
- Transfer of replcement card to Goroka

9th of April, 2008:
Went into Goroka Branch and paper work from 6/3 appears to have been lost.
Corie helped me and I filled out a new customer instruction form and she also took a copy of my card. She assured me that this time it would be followed up with Moresby. She suggested I come back next Wednesday.

16th of April, 2008:
Served by Faylene and Nicole.
Paperwork from 9/4 lost but original paper work from 6/3 found. All sent to Moresby but was told that Moresby had only sent through the file but had not done the transfer of account or replacement card. Nicole said that they will contact POM again and I was told to come back.

21st of April, 2008:
Served by Bilson.
Told that the account had now been transferred to Goroka but card has not arrived yet.
Was told that a batch of new cards was coming in on Wednesday and to check in then.

28th of April, 2008:
Served by Faylene and Bilson.
Card has not yet arrived. They will call Moresby to chase up.
My mobile # given. Told them I will be back tomorrow.

29th of April, 2008:
- Served by Betty: asked to write down account# and signature on a piece of paper (1st time). Betty than rang Moresby and told to (re)fax instruction letter!
- I insisted that I wait until I was given some assurance that fax was received and something was being done.
- Left standing at counter for 40mins!
- Told that card had not yet been received by Moresby!
- I insisted that I wanted some assurance that everything was being done to resolve request.
- Bilson brought into the picture…
- He rang Card Section of ANZ and card is expected today. They will then forward on to Boroko.
- Boroko will then forward on to Goroka by end of this week.
- Will go back to bank on Friday!

2nd of May, 2008:
Went in to Bank and spoke with Bilson. Said card was leaving POM this afternoon. I will come back on Monday.

30th of May, 2008:
My ATM Card expires.

5th of May, 2008:
Served by Bilson.
Picked up card!!

Moral of the story:

PNG Banks suck big time!!
