A common sight in Lae town is garbage piling up around public places. Not a pretty sight and I’m sure a breeding ground for many exotic diseases. The pile of garbage I photographed above was taken somewhere in the vicinity of the main bus stop next to the markets.
Every so often one will see Council workers rock up with a garbage truck and some shovels. There’re job to clean up this mess! These piles of rubbish can been seen all over town - wherever people gather - there you will find garbage piles. The locals blame the highlanders for the mess. Not sure whom the highlanders blame. It’s pretty disgusting regardless of the culprits. Nevertheless a sight that one does get used too - well I have anyway. In fact, on the odd occasion I have been known to either spit or throw something on to one of these piles.
When in Rome do what the romans do !!
