UNITECH Cultural Show 2006

The 2006 UNITECH Cultural Show is on this weekend from Friday, 1st of
September through to Sunday, 3rd of September.
This year the show promises to be a “ripper” with students very busy
running around getting ready for a range of cultural activities and
displays. Of an evening one can hear from a distance the groups
practicing their dances and singing, a lot of work is also going into
preparing a section of the sporting ovals for this event.
The last time this event was held on campus was two years ago. Last year
a lot of effort went into the preparation of PNG Independence
celebrations so the UNITECH Cultural Show was canceled.
An excitement is building - I can feel it. Something about a PNG
Cultural Show that is very special and unique - with over 800 spoken
languages in this country - you can only imagine the range and variety
of dances, dress and songs. Each dance, each song with its own unique
rhythm and beat. The drumming and movement draws the observer into a
trance like state.
Cultural shows are growing on me. And the one coming up this weekend
feels like the best yet. Perhaps its because I have witnessed the effort
by students or perhaps I feel excited because its on my doorstep. I
don't quite know why - but I feel like I'm a part of it somehow.
I have been invited by the Student Representative Council (SRC) to be a
judge for one of the events : The Mr and Miss UNITECH Traditional. A
privilege indeed!
More to be revealed!!
