Eli is back from Port Moresby

After two weeks in Port Moresby for the PNG Games, Eli finally made it back to Goroka last Thursday afternoon.

The luxury of solitude

Whilst Eli is in Port Moresby with the Eastern Highlands Hockey team for the PNG Games, I have the rare luxury of having the whole house to myself – no aunties or uncles, no ankle-biters, no brothers, sisters or

Infant Mortality, Promiscuity and Custom

What do infant mortality, promiscuity and tribal custom in Papua New Guinea have in common? A great deal if one takes a closer look at the history of Eli’s cousin – Kenny

Manam sighted at the village

Yesterday I returned to the village again to try and find Manam our cat.

In Search of Manam

I returned to the village today in an attempt to find Manam our cat. On route to the “Hut” last weekend – for a short stay – our “besty” went missing.

Missing in Action

“Manam” (our cat) has been missing in action since our visit to Kaubasis over the weekend! We normally take him with us on our visits to the “hut” – mainly to chase, harass and feast on the local rat population.

Back in Goroka

made it back safely to Goroka late Saturday afternoon. Great to see Eli again. With my head spinning a little since coming back – I really need to get a cracking with the “next” chapter. Interestingly this time round – it was easier going to Oz than coming back to PNG. Torn between two worlds – clan and home separated.

Thank you Sydney!

Well folks – the five weeks of R&R in Sydney are now well and truly over. I head back to Papua New Guinea today and if all goes according to plan I should be landing at Goroka airport at around 4:00pm. The past 5 weeks have been absolutely magnificent and I salute family and friends for making my stay a most memorable one. I will remain eternally grateful for the generosity and love that I have received from you over the past few weeks. Thanks!

My time in Sydney slowly draws to an end

As my 5 week holiday slowly draws to an end I am starting to look forward to returning to Goroka. Just like my blood “clan” lives here in Sydney and Brisbane – my “home” at this point of my life is in Papua New Guinea. To sum up the past 5 weeks magnificent!

Six more Sleeps

6 more sleeps before heading back to PNG. 6 more sleeps before being hit over the head with the inverse reverse culture shock hammer. 6 more sleeps to enjoy family and friends. 6 more sleeps before hugging Eli. 6 more sleeps and the start of a new chapter. 6 more sleeps
