Papua New Guineans find themselves stuck between a rock (village) and a hard place (town). Compassion, integrity and strength – inherent qualities of the tribal leader – have been replaced with greed, jealousy and cowardice. Trusted leaders at a national level are a figment of peoples imagination. PNG as a country and a people desperately needs to re-invent itself or perish.…

I don’t say this lightly. For 10 months I have not owed PNG Power one toea (cent) – yet our meter number remains with a “blocked” classification. This limits where and when we are able to purchase power credits (EasyPay). I know many a decent, hard-working and debt aware folks that have experienced a similar inconvenience. The utter inefficiency of PNG Power’s accounting processes coupled with a deteriorating quality of their power supply – without a doubt supports the macabre drive to bring this country to its knees.…
