Today was the big day and we got up just after sunrise - we had 101 things to get done before kick off at 11:00am. I will always remember the 23rd of October 2008 as the most precious of days - a day never to be repeated. It was one of those few occasions in life when purpose, vision and destiny merge into one, clarity reigns and surrender comes natural. I have spoken about my dream in previous blog posts and during these three days of the gathering of the eight clans - I felt that I had landed smack bang in the middle of it…

For three days and nights the eight Keto-Tapasi Clans rejoiced. Young and old, they danced and they sang, they celebrated the traditions of their ancestors. Men that had never worn bilas before did so for the first time. The old sat down with the young to teach them the intricacies of body decoration. Over the three day period singsing groups from all over Kaubasis expressed custom with spontaneity and pride. Many an old folk told me how they had not witnessed such a display of unity and community spirit since they were young kids…

We have just come back from the most amazing five days in the village. Papua New Guinea is full of surprises but there’s a few experiences that stand out above all others, the last few days will definitely go down in my memoirs as the best of the best…

Today we head to Kaubasis village and our “Hut” in preparation for a gathering on Thursday of the eight Keto and Tapasi Clans to celebrate and mark the launching of our newly registered association. This day has been close to 18 months in the making and can be considered a major milestone for the village folks…

After almost 15 months of hard and persistent work we have finally received our certificate of registration from the Investment Promotion Authority (IPA). After a visit to Goroka Post Office a couple of weeks ago I was overjoyed to find an official looking envelope in my PO Box. It’s been tough going and the monthly meetings in the village with the representatives from the eight clans is finally starting to show results…

After a visit to the village last week by a local coffee exporter we are
now ready to sell our 1st batch of coffee. Approximately 200 x 50kg bags of Highlands primo. Our friend the coffee exporter has offered to send one of his trucks out to the village to do a pickup and also to buy the coffee from us at factory price…
