For three days and nights the eight Keto-Tapasi Clans rejoiced. Young and old, they danced and they sang, they celebrated the traditions of their ancestors. Men that had never worn bilas before did so for the first time. The old sat down with the young to teach them the intricacies of body decoration. Over the three day period singsing groups from all over Kaubasis expressed custom with spontaneity and pride. Many an old folk told me how they had not witnessed such a display of unity and community spirit since they were young kids…

Today we head to Kaubasis village and our “Hut” in preparation for a gathering on Thursday of the eight Keto and Tapasi Clans to celebrate and mark the launching of our newly registered association. This day has been close to 18 months in the making and can be considered a major milestone for the village folks…

A few weeks ago we went for a drive with Angela and Nandex to the Highlands Cultural Center in Kainantu (K92). The drive from Goroka to Kainantu takes about 90 mins and passes through the Eastern Highlands towns (or villages) of Henganofi, Barola and Komprey…

Another parcel arrived in the post last week! After receiving a box from Mum about three weeks ago I feel like October must surely be our lucky month. The family back home have demonstrated their caring and generosity once again. Like always the folks here in Goroka fortunate enough to be given an item from the lucky dip are eternally grateful as I’m sure you will all appreciate from the photos below and also other photos in these albums…

Some of you will relate to the anticipation I feel between the time that I know a parcel is on its way and that moment when the PO Box is opened and there’s a little card that says to collect from the Post Office counter…

Remember Mr and Mrs Oink or Prof and Princess - the two pig beings that put me on the Papua New Guinea “Big man” map?
Originally a gift from Uncle Joel, we looked after the two piglets during our time at UNITECH in 2006. Kau-kau twice a day, the before sunrise “oink-oinks” - please feed me wake up calls, how could one ever forget?. We both grew fond of our two little babies and looked after them like one would there own kids…

After almost 15 months of hard and persistent work we have finally received our certificate of registration from the Investment Promotion Authority (IPA). After a visit to Goroka Post Office a couple of weeks ago I was overjoyed to find an official looking envelope in my PO Box. It’s been tough going and the monthly meetings in the village with the representatives from the eight clans is finally starting to show results…

Goroka Show 2008 was held in town (Eastern Highlands Province) over the weekend on the grounds if the National Sports Institute (NSI). The weekend was a success with many sing sing groups from all over the Highlands and other parts of Papua New Guinea participating in this magnificent celebration of culture, tradition and custom…

I stayed home today to be with Eli and to make sure that she’s OK - she’s just had an operation and was discharged over the weekend from Goroka General Hospital after being there for five days.
