Planti Stori long Ples

PNG Ples or PNG Village is where that something “special” can still be found. With around 90% of Papua New Guineans still living “long ples” most locals remain true the rituals, traditions and customs of their ancestors. Having said that – change (so called progress) is hitting these rural folks at a rate of knots and not always for the best.

Photos from our engagement

All photos from our engagement ceremony in the village last weekend have now been uploaded for public viewing.

The day we exchanged vows

After more than four years of going out “steady”, we formally exchanged vows in the eye of the Bolku Clan. The weekend unfolded in true Simbu village style and culminated in a tribal ceremony

An exchange of vows

We’ve been staying out at the “Hut” on and off for the past couple of weeks and it’s been absolutely magnificent.

Meet some of the Kaubasis locals

The walk to the “Hut” from the Highway at Mangiro Junction can take anywhere between one and six hours.

The magic of the “Hut”

We got back from the “Hut” around lunch time on Saturday. We had a fabulous time. The rest, release and nurturing after a few days in the village is beyond words.

Gone to the Hut

We have gone to the village this week and will be staying at the “Hut”. No email, no internet and no work!! Anyone needing to contact us urgently bad luck!!

The latest on the Cholera Outbreak

I was having a chat this afternoon with a couple of the doctors from Goroka General Hospital on the Cholera situation in Morobe and now the Eastern Highlands. One of the good doctors commented

Has Cholera crossed over into the Eastern Highlands?

I have good reason to suspect that Cholera has crossed over into the Eastern Highlands of Papua New Guinea. Over the past month there have been close to 200 reported deaths in the remote Menyamya District

Death toll from Dysentery reaches 177

The Menyamya District of Morobe Province in Papua New Guinea is currently being hit with a deadly strain of Dysentery and Flu. Whilst the world remains focused on Swine Flu

Are there any snakes in Papua New Guinea?

I get asked from time to time whether Papua New Guinea has any snakes? You bet! Check out the head on this fellow!! The following photo was taken a couple of weeks ago at Kama whilst we were visiting some of the clan that reside in Goroka town
