Working for the man

Working for the man

“Hey now you better listen to me everyone of you – We got a lotta lotta lotta lotta work to do – Forget about your woman and that water can – Today we’re working for the man – well pick up your feet – we’ve got a deadline to meet – I’m gonna see you make it on time – Don’t relax – I want elbows and backs – I wanna see everybody from behind – ‘Cause your working for the man working for the man – you gotta make him a hand when you’re working for the man”… (Roy Orbison)

The ITShare Container finally arrives!

After months of waiting and waiting and waiting. the ITShare container has finally made it to Goroka.

PNG and Open Source…

I recently started a PNG Open Source web page separate to my own blog. There’s not much on there right now but I am hoping that it will generate some interest within the Open Source Community and within PNG generally

The two ShareIT Volunteers…

First day on the job for the two ShareIT volunteers: John MacKenzie and Karl Goetz.

It was very much an induction day for the two of them and I ended up inviting them back to my place for lunch. Henry, our IT Officer also joined us and I snapped a photo of the group at the front gate of home on our way back to the Hospital

Problems with my Internet connection….

Due to a couple of issues I have not been able to post to my blog the last couple of days

Teleworking…

It’s what I’ve been doing a lot of this week – really nice to have the flexibility to be able to work from home. Never done much of it in the past as I have always seen home as the place to get away from work

Budgets, Activity Plans and Slog…

I have been busy the last week or so preparing Activity Plans and a Budget
for the IT Section at Goroka General Hospital. Budgets are a pain in the
proverbial no matter where one is and Goroka is certainly no exception

An article that I recently submitted to the Hospital Magazine

It’s been a little over two years since I first landed at Jackson’s Airport in Port Moresby. When I first
arrived in PNG I had absolutely no idea what to expect and to be honest I was scared out of my wits. The Australian media and the Government’s travel advisory body describe Papua New Guinea as a hostile, dangerous and conflict riddled part of the Pacific

I forgot to mention…

Yesterday, the US Ambassador to PNG visited Goroka General Hospital. A huge event for the Hospital; Board members and management all wearing their Sunday best, also for the Hospital staff and anyone else in the vicinity at the
time of the diplomats visit

A win on the work front!

My motto: “Slowly but surely chip, chip, and chip” is beginning to pay off

Wailing!

The sound of wailing relatives does it to me every time. Women and men alike. Here on the Hospital grounds, everyday. On my way to work of a morning, on my way home of an afternoon, mid-morning, mid-afternoon, always and at least once a day.
